How to Comply with Responsible Gaming
How to Comply with Responsible Gaming
Responsible gaming (RG) is a shared responsibility. By embracing responsible gaming practices collectively, all stakeholders can contribute to anticipating and minimising potential risks.
Licensees - Complying with RG Requirements
Operators, third-party vendors, and their employees play a crucial role in ensuring gaming remains a safe source of entertainment. As GCGRA licensees, they must comply with a set of RG-related obligations, including:
- A Comprehensive RG programme:
Gaming operators shall implement a Socially Responsible Gaming Program in accordance with the GCGRA’s RG Framework and have it audited at least every two years by a GCGRA-Approved auditor. This includes player education, responsible marketing, employee training, and evaluation plans to measure the effectiveness of these initiatives. - Responsible Persons:
Gaming Operators shall identify a Person(s) responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Socially Responsible Gaming efforts. - Upholding Responsible Advertising Standards:
Implement strategies ensuring all advertising and promotions are sensitive to youth exposure and vulnerable populations and adhere to the GCGRA’s Advertising Standards. Marketing messages should promote responsible play, refrain from presenting gaming as a means to solving personal or financial problems. Messages should also highlight the availability of problem gaming resources. - Education and Awareness:
Operators must educate their customers about gaming responsibly. This includes providing information on the odds of winning, potential risks, and where to seek help if needed. - Player Empowerment Tools:
Operators must provide tools such as deposit limits, time and money management aids, access control measures and self-exclusion options to help players maintain control over their gaming activities.
Players - Embracing RG Principles
Players are encouraged to play responsibly by embracing responsible gaming principles. These principles include the following:
- Playing with licensed gaming operators only
Engaging with unlicensed gaming operators, including lottery operators, is illegal in the UAE and may expose players to severe penalties. - Staying informed
Players should ensure they have all the necessary information regarding the games they play, including the odds of winning and the risks involved. - Managing Time and Money proactively
Utilising all the tools provided by operators and the GCGRA to set their own limits on the amount of time and money they spend on gaming. - Taking advantage of available support
Players should familiarise themselves with available support services and information provided by the GCGRA, our licensees and RG partners in the UAE to anyone facing difficulties with their gaming behaviour. - Voluntary Self-Exclusion
Players who feel they need a break from gaming, may consider self-exclusion programs offered by operators as part of their RG obligations in the UAE. This tool allows them to take control and initiate periodic short or long-term breaks from gaming activities.
